Irish Poker is an enjoyable card game that combines Omaha and Texas Hold’em into one fun experience, providing an entertaining way to spend a night out or spend alone time.
This party game can be enjoyed by large groups with only a simple deck of cards and plenty of alcohol as a result of alcohol consumption. But be warned: this is not real poker and should not be played for money while under the influence.
Irish Poker Drinking Game Rules
This drinking game’s rules are very straightforward and anyone can participate. Each player receives four cards face down from a dealer before flipping through two rows of cards in the center of the table; one row serves as “give”, and another as “take.”
Each player then makes an individual decision regarding whether to give or take two drinks depending on the value of their cards, with additional beverages added if required.
Once everyone has made their decisions, the first round can begin. A dealer then flips through rows of cards in the center, with players receiving or giving drinks depending on which card appears in their row.
Players in the next round should make a guess at the suit of the final card in their row – choosing among clubs, diamonds, spades and hearts as possible choices. If their prediction proves incorrect, they must drink eight; otherwise they may hand out eight cards instead.
In the third round, players should aim to select a suit that stands out least among all of the cards on the table – this will allow for informed decision making and ensure a better result overall.
Once all players have made their decisions, the dealer will put four additional cards face-down in the center of the table for everyone to see, with every player taking turn turning over his/her card and seeing if their guess was correct – with the winner being determined by who had the closest guess.
This game is ideal for parties and can accommodate up to 13 players at the same time, easily adding another deck for even larger house parties to enjoy!
Before beginning this game, be sure to ensure the crowd is comfortable with what will be used as alcohol – beer or spirits both work equally well – before selecting which alcoholic beverage works for the majority of players to ensure everyone can enjoy themselves and have an enjoyable time.
